Privacy Policy for OmniScan
Last updated: July 31, 2026
OmniScan (“the app”) is a QR code and barcode scanner for iOS and Android.
What the app does
OmniScan uses your device camera (and, if you choose, a photo from your library) to read supported barcode formats. You can act on results when the content type allows it — for example copy or share the value, open links, search the web, call, send SMS or email, copy Wi‑Fi details, or save phone/contact details. Scan history stays on your device.
Data we collect
OmniScan does not collect personal information on our servers.
- We do not create user accounts.
- We do not require sign-in.
- We do not send scan results, camera frames, gallery photos, or history to a remote server for scanning or advertising.
- We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics SDKs that track you across apps.
- Optional in-app feedback is sent only if you choose to submit it. Scan data is not included unless you paste or type it into the feedback yourself.
Scan history is stored only on your device using on-device storage. You can search, delete individual items, clear history, or share/export from the app.
Permissions
- Camera: used to detect and read barcodes while the scanner screen is open, including switching between front and rear cameras and using the flashlight when available.
- Photos / media library: requested only when you choose to scan a code from an image you select. Selected images are processed on your device for decoding and are not uploaded for scanning.
- Haptics: brief vibration/haptic feedback when a code is accepted (does not require a separate permission on iOS).
Actions that open other apps
Some result actions hand off to your device’s system apps or other apps you choose (for example browser, phone, SMS, email, or contacts). Those apps process the data under their own policies. OmniScan does not upload that data to TaluLabs servers when you use these actions.
Children
OmniScan is not directed at children under 13, and we do not encourage young children to use mobile apps unsupervised. Pediatric and child-development guidance generally recommends limiting early, unsupervised screen use; OmniScan is built for a general audience, not for that age group.
OmniScan does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone — including children — because the app does not collect personal information on our servers at all.
Ads and sustainability
We do not plan to add advertising to OmniScan. The app is meant to stay simple, useful, and ad-free.
If you would like to help with the app’s sustainability — for example app store fees and development costs — you are welcome to support TaluLabs voluntarily. This is optional and not required to use the app. Buy me a coffee
Changes
We may update this policy when the app changes. The “Last updated” date above will change when we do.
